If you were living under a rock, you might be unaware that a once in 50 year storm hit Adelaide, South Australia yesterday. To top off the pelting rain, hail, thunder, 80,000 lightening strikes, and excessive winds – the entire state lost power late Wednesday afternoon. Leaving 1.677 million residents and business owners in the dark. A photo here from the 7 News Adelaide Facebook page shows the before and after of Adelaide’s CBD in darkness:
Searching the hashtag #AdelaideStorm on Facebook, we’ve collated a few of our favourite social media posts from brands and businesses trying to make light of a dimly lit situation (pardon the pun!).
Local jeweller Gerard McCabe taking an opportunity to highlight their beautiful diamonds in the dark.
National brand 5 Seeds here giving a shout-out to their SA followers, showing how their product can be creatively used to light the night.
Local South Australian winemakers Howard Vineyard tapped into something close to the hearts of most SA residents – wine! And what better to keep warm and savour during a dark, Wintery night but glass or two of red?
Local retailer Zuki&Boo thought they’d remind everyone to stock back up on those very necessary candles just in case there was another blackout.
Did you see any brands making the most of the #AdelaideStorm on social media?
We hope you and your loved ones stayed safe and dry yesterday, and a quick shout out to the lovely people manning the SA Power Networks social media accounts – as social media managers ourselves we understand that they’ve certainly had their work cut out for them in the past 24 hours. Chin up guys, you’re doing a great job!
